My Antonia Essays (377 words) - My Ntonia, Antonii, Willa Cather
My Antonia My Antonia, by Willa Cather has many symbols through out the novel. Symbolism reflects her own views as a child through her life. Some of these symbols are Jim's grandomother's garden and snake-killing incident. Jim's grandomother's garden made him fell as a part of nature, as human beings originally were in the Garden of Eden. When he came to the garden he would also wonder if people felt like this when they died and became a part of knowledge, goodness, sun and air. His maturity makes him feel how he really feels about Antonia. Jim was always afraid to tell Antonia how he felt about her. Ever since Jim laid eyes on her, he knew that she was the love of his life, but didn't want to tell her because of the big difference of the social classes. Jim often wondered if Antonia could serve as a motherm friend, lover or sweetheart. In the garden Jim and Antonia would play around, work in the garden and picked potatos. The garden symbolizes the freedom that children enjoyed during the youth years. When the sanke-incident happens Antonia brags about how brave Jim was. Antonia exclaimed to Jim's family, He fight something awful! He is all over Jimmy's boots. I scream for him to run, but he jsut hit an hit that snake like he was crazy. (Page 33). At this point Jim realizes that Antonia was more that a friend but Antonia sees him more like a little brother especially since he is four years younger than him. Work can also be another symbol in the term that Antonia worked hard in the farm. Her neck came up strongly out of her shoulders, like the hole of a tree out of the turf Cather emphasizes. Antonia goal was to prove her mother that she can work as well as Ambrosch leads her to compete with the men plowing and to pick up masculine traits that overshadow her feminity. Antonia would always work hard in the fields and people knew she was a hard worker. This symbol of work showes how she does not give up even though she is a girl. Through out the novel symbolism is often used in every chapter. Willa Cather often used symbolism portaining to Jim and Antonia. Willa Cather thought that using symbolism would bring more meaning to the novel. Book Reports

Free Essays on Nussbaum
Our Capacity to Learn ââ¬Å"Could there possibly be a more difficult book out there to read? I donââ¬â¢t understand anything I just read!â⬠These were the thoughts circulating through my mind each time I picked up Nussbaumââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"Cultivating Humanity.â⬠In this paper I am going to attempt to make clearer Nussbaumââ¬â¢s thoughts, beliefs, and statements, and add to that my own opinion on her thoughts: whether I agree or disagree. Critical thinking can be simply defined as analyzing thoughts. Argument may perhaps be the most effective style of critical thinking. Nussbaum herself states that ââ¬Å"failure to think criticallyâ⬠¦we need argument, an essential tool of civic freedom.â⬠(Nussbaum 19). In chapter four of ââ¬Å"Cultivating Humanity,â⬠I found that it was very difficult to find an instance of critical thinking. Circles in a Circle by Vasily Kandinsky Term Paper
Circles in a Circle by Vasily Kandinsky - Term Paper Example The essay "Circles in a Circle by Vasily Kandinsky" explores the work of art Circles in a Circle by Vasily Kandinsky. The paper also considers how Circles is not an offbeat experimental work within Kandinskyââ¬â¢s broad oeuvres. He developed a unique style, whereby, he tried to reign in his artistic imagination within the structure of geometry. The work has several features that were deemed novel upon their introduction. One of the prominent features is the usage of perfect geometric forms. Conventional aesthetic sense had it that mellifluous and obtuse curves comprised the grammar of the art. But what Kandinskyââ¬â¢s art achieved was to open up a new idea of aesthetic. Under this new sensibility, the precision of mathematics is shown to have a place in visual arts. When we search for socio-cultural analogies, there are parallels to the compositional technique of Johann Sebastian Bach. Experts widely accede to the mathematical element behind the composerââ¬â¢s technique. One could read Circles within a Circle as a tribute to the musical genius from the Baroque era. At once, it is also an experiment to test if an idea could be transposed across art forms. Given the rich legacy of appreciation that Kandinskyââ¬â¢s Circles has drawn over the centuries, it is fair to claim that the experimentation has been a success. The great Italian polymath set forth an intellectual tradition wherein science and art were closely connected. Circles is also strikingly representative of Nicholas Copernicusââ¬â¢ illustrations of the order of the Universe.

Mathematics Lesson Plan 1 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3500 words
Mathematics Lesson Plan 1 - Essay Example MATHEMATICS LESSON PLAN 1 ââ¬Ë5 Little Ducksââ¬â¢ by Wendy Straw Early Stage 1 Aim: Through this lesson, the students can learn how to solve addition problems better and quicker. This lesson will teach the children how to recognise jumbled numbers and how to add numbers. Through the lesson, the students can learn to work in groups and to reflect on their lessons. The studentââ¬â¢s prior knowledge, as well as their ability to count up to ten has been taken into account. ... For example, background information shall be given, including the number of ducklings birds have. As a result, they will understand the topic and content more. As a whole class, the children can be asked if any of them have seen a duck in real life and also to describe how a duck looks like. The teacher will then read the book ââ¬ËFive Little Ducksââ¬â¢ by Wendy Straw. Reading the book also allows the students to count along. As the teacher is going through the pages, she would ask the class questions about the book. For example, how many ducks were there are at the beginning and how many ducks were left? The teacher can also ask additional questions, like if there were 2 ducks and 1 duck came back, how many ducks will there be all together? Students need to be seated on the classroom floor In reading the book to the class, use hand gestures in describing how the ducks quack. Allow the students to talk amongst each other Observe the children who are struggling to recognise the numbers and who are familiar with the questions Body (25 min) As a whole class put a video of addition and number recognition on the IWB (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLwrQBQ5JJE) Ask the class addition questions such as, 3 + 2=..... Then the students can be grouped into mixed ability groups of 4 to 5. Get an empty 12 compartment egg carton. In the egg carton, put in two duck pictures randomly and in all the other ten compartments write the numbers 0 to 9 in no specific order. Also place a button in the carton. The children are to each have a turn to shake the carton and then open the carton. Wherever the button will land they are to say the number. If the button lands on the ducks, then the children are to make the noise a duck makes or say something they know about a duck. After the

Debate Speech Essay Example for Free
Debate Speech Essay A pleasant afternoon to one and all, standing in front of you is Alliah Dominique M. Sta. Ana, 3rd affirmative speaker, opposing the proposition of Mr. Despi that ââ¬Å"Republic Act No. 10354 also known as Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health Act of 2012â⬠should be legalize here in the Philippines. Let us all be open minded as I begin. First and Foremost, let me give you brief information about RH Bill. It guarantees the universal access to methods of contraceptions, fertility control, maternal care and sex education. à There are many reasons why I stand before my proposition because implementing RH Bill is unconstitutional. Why? It seeks to regulate or legislate morality. It criminalizes the practice of faith and religion as well as other cts that are not inherently evil or against public policy. It is socially and economically unjust and destructive. The law justifies the imposition of new taxes and higher tax rates, government borrowing, price controls, distortions, massive regulations, that will affect not just the entire economy but also peopleââ¬â¢s rights. It will also benefit certain bussinesses and industries in a monopoly or crony system. Where will they buy contraceptives, preganancy kits, RH products and equipments, employerââ¬â¢s fee for their time and service? There are already dozens of RH Laws or RH related laws enacted in the past. It seems all of them didnââ¬â¢t work. Did they? Because the only solution to this problem would be having self control and discipline. I firmly believe that an ordinary person is capable to be good so it does mean that everyone, catholic or not, can be disciplined. The main purpose of sex is to procreate not to satisfy our senses or needs. So if you will have sex, bear in mind that its main purpose is to reproduce which is Godââ¬â¢s will. Now, if you are to have sex with contraceptives, then that is not called procreation. It is called sense gratification or lust which is a strong desire for someone, that way doing sex is purposeless. If you are to have sex without contraceptives, without thinking the consenquences, without family planning, make sure you are ready to face such big responsibility that will change your life. Life is created and is the will of the Lord. How it begins and how it ends is His thing ââ¬â Not ours. When God allowed the process of sex which at the same time is the free will of woman and man which will put that child in a womanââ¬â¢s womb, whether the mother or father is sick, that is His will. And now if you are a follower of God which the RH supporters also claim, and you are spiritually realized, then you must know that you do not have the right to hinder such event or manifestation by killing what is forming or what is inside you. Therefore, I strongly believe that RH bill should not be implented for this will not be created if we just control ourselves. This methods will offend the Church and the Catholics, this methods are just expenses, RH Bill will only change the clearer vision of life. It will be such a bad impact to the country. Bear in mind that we are in a religious country. Besides, Natural Family Planning helps the married partners to strengthen their communication. A baby made with conjugal love is the result of natural family planning thatââ¬â¢s why I prefer natural family planning to be the only method to decrease our population rate. Thatââ¬â¢s all, thank you and Good Afternoon!

Music Therapy and Depression Essay -- Music Therapy and Mood Disorders
Introduction There are many studies that show how music therapy helps people with mood disorders. People with depression can benefit from music therapy because through music therapy they can lessen the symptoms of depression. In the studies and cases that will be mentioned we can see that music therapy is effective through methods like group therapy. It is shown that people with depression that go through music therapy are affected in a positive way. Overview of Mood Disorders Mood disorders are a class of behavioral-emotional disorders labeled by disruption in mood. Examples of this are depression or extreme elation. Some people may experience periods of depression or elation but this doesnââ¬â¢t mean they have a mood disorder. Mood disorders are defined around different episode. Episodes are periods of time where someone will show signs of different symptoms that reflect a change from how they were before (Davis, Gfeller, Thaut, 2008). If someone is having a depressive episode and this last for a long period of time they may be experiencing depression. Depression is marked by persistent depressed mood, changes in appetite or weight, lack of energy, difficulty concentrating and changes in sleep patterns. These symptoms can develop at a very difficult time in someoneââ¬â¢s life and continue beyond a normal period of mourning. People can become depressed because of a difficult life event or some can become depressed for no reason at all (Symptoms of Depression, 2005-2013). Some ask ââ¬Å"what is the difference between bipolar disorder and depressionâ⬠. Bipolar disorder is also known as manic depression. The answer to this is that depression does not have manic episodes like bipolar disorder does. Bipolar changes between manic ... ...ic therapy. Works Cited Albornoz, Y. (2011). The Day I will always remember
Well what can I say about this amazing night out? I knew from the moment that I heard it was confirmed to happen that it really was going to be something special, after all it is (in my opinion) the greatest DJ on the planet playing in my favourite club on the planet. I have been a serious fan of Lisa Lashes ever since I first heard her play in Spank @ Ceasers, Dundalk and I fell in love with her mental non-slacking style off pure Hard House. So naturally when I heard she was coming to play in ââ¬ËThe Met' there was nothing on this planet that could stop me from witnessing this night. As for ââ¬ËThe Met', well what can I say. Three things make it my favourite club in Ireland. Firstly a layout to die for consisting of one single huge tremendous off Arena. (Co-incidentally that is how it is known to the die-hard posse i. e. ââ¬ËThe Arena') With the dance floor being the lowest point, then there's the stage with two wicked podiums, the place then works its way up a series of pumping balconies & staircases right to the very top mental balconies and the DJ box is situated just above the main stage. Secondly the absolutely spectacular sound & light systems are both absolutely first class, I have been going to the Met for about 2 years and I have never once witnessed any problems with the light-show or the sound system. Last but absolutely in no way least, the crowd. Every Saturday night the place is filled with mental up for it clubbers from all over the north and south of Ireland who I know all feel as passionate about the place as I do. At about 12:00 when the place is at its peak if you stop for a second and take a look around at this unique place it really never fails to send goosebumps shooting all over your body. To put it in layman's terms ââ¬ËThe Met' rocks the house every Saturday night without fail, and this one was gonna be twice as nuts! The night started off in a small bar in Dundrum with the place slowly filling up with well up for it clubbers psyching themselves up for a truly unforgettable night. I was saddened by the fact that my usual accomplice & partner in crime Micky was unable to make it for the night (I know she would have felt right at home at a nuts night like this) but this just meant I was going to have to compensate by going twice as nuts. We arrived at about 8:00pm and already the place was bunged to the gills but I'm glad that the Met had decided to stick to its Maximum capacity restriction of just slightly over 2,000 as we all feared we were gonna be crammed in like sardines. Though the place was packed you still had good room to walk about and generally go mad. The music was going unbelievable, the place was bouncing and you would have been forgiven if you had thought it was Lisa Lashes herself on the decks but it was none other than the resident DJ Mal Black doing what he does best, whipping the crowd into an absolute frenzy. Then at 10:00 came the moment everyone had been waiting for. Marc Dobbin winds the crowd up â⬠could you please give a warm Met welcome for the top Hard House DJ in the UK, FOR THE DJ LISA LASHESâ⬠. The needle dropped and with that I swear to God in all my years of attending the Met I have never seen the place lose the plot like that. For the next two hours I got the full onslaught that you would only expect from Lisa Lashes and then some, no matter how mental I thought the next tune was gonna be it was always Harder and Faster than I expected. There was thumping baselines and a rolling galore all through her set and there was definitely parts of my brain touched that night that were never reached before and more than likely will never be again. Well that's a lie because just before the end of her set it was announced to the huge appreciation of the crowd that she will be re-visiting the Met again in the very near future. Gods Kitchen are taking up a monthly residency in the Met with Lisa and the equally hard and brilliant Fergie taking it month about to cause mayhem in Armagh. After Lisa's set came on AJ Gibson who I had never heard of before but I really hope to hear of again. Although his set wasn't as hard and as furious as Lisa's I believe it was a more intelligent set and I think he done really well considering he had such a hard act to follow. The second resident DJ of the night, the absolutely amazing Mandy Reid who sent the crowd nuts for the last half-hour or so of the night followed his set. I really do believe that the Met should be proud to have the two greatest DJs in the north of Ireland grace the decks there every Saturday night. Then the night as always in the Met came to an end far too early (it could end at 5:00am and it would still be too early) and it was of home in the hunt for a party. So after one of the greatest nights of my life I would like to thank, Gods Kitchen for there amazing dicor, dancers and crazy performers. The Met for, well simply for being the Met. Mal & Mandy for once again blowing my head of with the best in new and old trance & house. AJ Gibson for also doing an excellent job on the decks and finally Lisa Lashes for absolutely tearing the place up with the greatest style of music played in the greatest way possible, I look forward to seeing her again.
